In Solr a feld my recive some work before being stored in backend to better be able to search for it. Example would be XMLText with only the words and not the tags.

This story is about adding support for custom field support as well as support for hinting of wanted field in the API.

By "hinting" it means the current Search handler should fallback to the default field value if the hint does not exist avoiding to tight coupling with a specific Search backend.
