PlotKit and Flash Media Interactive Server?

Many of my Adobe AIR demonstrations show the concept of “script briding” between JavaScript and Flash libraries (i.e. SWC files). Using this feature, JavaScript developers can leverage existing work done by Flash developers in areas that were previously not feasible in the browser. It’s important to recognize however, that the Flash Player itself [...]

FITC is approaching and I am glad to announce that I will do more than just the one session about inlining bytecode. I will also talk about Hydra again — it will be the “Chop the Hydra!” session from FITC Amsterdam. I think it is a great opportunity to share the Hydra-love on the other [...]

Updated AIR Example Code

Over the last year, my API overview presentation has evolved through 3 beta releases and the official AIR 1.0 launch. I have been a little slow in updating the examples, but I have just posted the updated archive file here. This archive file contains ten examples:

example_applicationicons - An example of specifying an application icon within the application descriptor.

example_fileicons - Loading the icon of a specific file from the system, and setting the application icon at runtime using the retrieved icon.

example_localstore - Usage of the EncryptedLocalStore API.

example_nativedrag - Dragging data out of an AIR application. Also shows the usage of the Clipboard API.

example_nativefiledialogue - Launching native file dialogs and writing data to the disk.

example_nativewindows - Launching different types of native windows and and example of creating a transparent window.

example_objectserialization - Serializing ActionScript objects and writing and reading them from the disk using the File API.

example_servicemonitor - Watching for events when the application goes online or offline.

example_sqlinsertperformance - A quick example showing the performance of the local database API when using transactions vs. when not using transactions.

example_transparentwindowskin - How to create a completely custom window skin.

I know people are using these. It’s fun randomly running into them here and there on the web. I even have people submitting changes and fixes for them. And, I’ve been continuing to add to them. So it’s time to make them a little more accessible. You can now get the MinimalComps set right on [...]

Heading To Cleveland For Flex Camp

I am on the way to Cleveland for Flex Camp tomorrow (posting this on my cell phone from a rest stop on the Ohio Turnpike). I had originally planned to present an opening session and take part in a closing Q&A panel, but I'll have to miss the Q&A as I have to be in San Francisco next. I understand that attendance for Flex Camp Cleveland is up around 150, which is great, and I am looking forward to meeting everyone in the morning.

As I mentioned previously, I gave a new talk titled Bare-naked Flash: Dispelling myths and building bridges at Highland Fling this week.
