Supposing you have two attributes in your content class:

doctor_name (object relation)
doctor_name_other (text line)

You cannot use this as the object name pattern:

<doctor_name|doctor_name_other>

Reason: if the doctor_name object relation is empty, it will not fall back to the doctor_name_other text line attribute.
